We Planted a Tree at Our Wedding Venue

The Madagascar Palm we planted after our wedding

You might have heard of a wedding bouquet. Yeah- I didn’t want any of that because flowers just die. I wanted something different- I wanted something that would live on. So we planted a tree at our wedding venue. How many people do you know that had a WEDDING TREE?!?!

When we were looking for a wedding venue, we felt called to do it in the desert. We booked a stay at the O Spa & Resort in Desert Hot Springs since it was close to both Palm Springs and Joshua Tree areas and had a list of venues to visit. However, the more and more we visited these beautiful spaces, the more and more we just wanted to go back to the O Spa and relax in the hot springs. We even cancelled on a few appointments because we just knew we didn’t want to hold our celebration anywhere else.

When we started to talk to the O Spa to book, I had a crazy idea to ask them. It was actually inspired by another venue that I was interested in. This other venue said that they actually plant a Joshua Tree for every couple that books their wedding. I thought that was so sweet to have something live on past the wedding, something that we could visit, and even though we didn’t book with them, I still wanted to do that. So we asked the O Spa if we could plant something there, and as crazy as I thought it was, they were all about it!

So fast forward to the day of the wedding on 11/11, and even though we had a million things to do, we made sure to carve out the time to go pick out our plant. After a quick google search, I found Mariscal Cactus & Succulents only a few minutes away from the O Spa.

We hopped in the truck and paid the spot a visit. As a succulent lover, I was in heaven! There were so many plants there that I wanted to take home. After browsing around, we stumbled upon the Madagascar Palms. We haven’t seen any at the O Spa and we wanted to get something different and unique. So we picked out our favorite one and took it back with us.

We treated the tree like a member of the wedding party. We named it BLISS after the word/intention we chose for the event. This special plant even had a spot on stage with us during the sunset ceremony- and our officiant Mike made sure to let everyone know about it and its new home along with some words of wisdom from Dr. Emoto’s Water Study on how thoughts can affect water.

The plant partied with us on the dance floor, and it hung out with us during the pool party the next day. We made sure to put it in the ground in a place very special to us- right next to the cabana that we turned into our DJ booth for the weekend. So if you ever go to the O Spa, make sure to pay a visit to our friend BLISS and give it a few words of love. We’ll be sure to visit sooner than later to see how much it grows!
