A Big Hello from Home

Hey there,

Thanks for checking in with me. I’m kicking things off from my home, and while that may not seem like anything special, during these times, it is.

If you’re visiting from 2020, you probably have an idea of why being home is such a big deal, but if you’re from the future, I’m here because of the Shelter in Place for the Covid-19 Pandemic. Times are quite crazy and uncertain, but I’m not going to start off this blog with that. Instead, I just wanted to say hello, and give you a little something to look forward to, while sharing a bit of my story of how I got here.

What Took So Long?

I’ve had my share of websites in the past and for my whole adult life, I wanted to keep one going. But with blogs posted infrequently, and shops updated whenever, it was obvious that my desire for a website never aligned with the reality of my life. Instead, I focused on writing for other sites and building other platforms, all while the little voice inside of me slipped further and further away.

But now that I’m working from home with nowhere to go, I’ve been blessed with the gift of time so I really have NO excuses to set this shit off. And in the true scheme of things, this actually serendipitously aligns with my original timeline of starting a new website. With the start of the astrological year and today being a New Moon, there is no better time for me for a fresh beginning.

What were my barriers?

In reflecting on what my barriers were for a website, I can really only blame one thing: myself. I strived for perfection and had unrealistic notions of how and when I’d put work into myself, so now this time around, I am accepting that this is not perfect- and never will be. I’ll be growing this site as I grow and use this as space to take my field notes, just as an archeologist would in uncovering artifacts.

In all honesty, another barrier was that I wasn’t really clear on what I’m actually focusing on, so how can I share my story when I felt all over the place? I tried to start sites all about food, or fitness, and maintain multiple Instagram accounts to put all the pieces of me in neat little categories, but why was I segmenting myself out when it’s really the sum of all that which truly makes me...ME?

What am i about anyways?

I spent some time thinking about what it really is that drives me, and finally saw the thread that ties everything together in a nice big box: HEALTH. It’s so obvious but I just never fully claimed it. From the nutritious food, workouts, self-care, and mindfulness practices, all that points to health.

But what about my love for vintage and all things from the past? That can simply be expressed as a desire for a healthier planet. Even though I’ve had my share of overconsumption over the years, when it really boils down to it, I’m content with using as many of the resources we already have to spare Mother Earth as much as we can. I want to keep spreading that message.

Again, I’m not perfect. I’m not the “healthiest” person, whatever that means. But the important thing is that I’m still trying, but this time I’m taking notes all along the way.

Ready to dig in with me?

If so, I hope you’ll subscribe to my mailing list and see what I come up with.

P.S. This is my second time writing this out...I lost everything after almost finishing it. Even though I’m telling myself what I wrote before was better, I think my first lesson in this experience is to reflect on ALL OF THIS once again.
